Part 2- How to read reports
|
|
Section 2
Scratch- You may scratch horses by checking the box near the Horses PP
number. Then by clicking on the Scratch button the sheets will be recalculated.
When using the single race selection report, you have the option to scratch
any entry with a single mouse click. Use this feature to eliminate layoff runners
or long shots that you do not consider as contenders for the race in question.
Scratch runners who are on the Also Eligible list to see the real match ups for
the race. Scratch a contender and see what effect it will have on a race when
this runner does not perform to expectations. Using the scratch feature in
combination with your handicapping skills will lead you to the most likely
outcome of the race based on your own experiences. Tell us what reasons
you use to remove a runner and we can add it to this list.
PP- Horse's saddlecloth number in today's race. This number is the program
number for wagering purposes only. The post position is sometimes different
from this number.
Horse- Using the horses name is a personal preference. In general, horse
lovers will refer to the name more often than a gambler more interested in
the ratings than each individual horse. We like to call a runners by his name
when this is practical.
ML Odds- The morning line odds are taken from the track handicapper for
each track. Use the morning line to make comparisons to the wagering that
is taking place on the tote board. The effectiveness of finding value in this
method will vary from track to track, depending on the accuracy of the track
handicapper. Know the tracks you play well and you can find this information
useful in selecting winners at a good price.
LR- Use the days since last race to identify layoff runners. Thorostats does
not distinguish from a runner who is off for a year or more from a runner who
returns to race very soon. We have left this decision in the hands of each user
to evaluate according to preference.
Run Style- Running styles help us to identify the race shape. Prefer runners
who will benefit from today's race shape.
E- Early speed horse - a horse that needs to get out in front
EP- Early Presser Horse who likes the lead or close to front
P- Pressers - Horse not on the lead, but within a few lengths of lead
S- Sustainer - comes from off the pace
NA- not applicable - cannot be determined from the available data
"F"- Form number we have assigned to horse based on number of patterns or
angles horse qualifies for. The F column is a number assigned to any of several
factors the we have identified to have a positive trend or trainer maneuver. This
rating is experimental and we are looking for user suggestions to help us improve
or eliminate this rating. Please add your comments and suggestions at any time.
Cls Lr- Thorostats class number for horse based upon class of last race.
Cls L3R- Class number for horse based upon average class of Last 3 Races.
Compare the last race class rating to the last three average ratings to see which
runners are moving up or down in class. Handicappers prefer class jumpers or
class droppers based on different criteria for each race. Use the class ratings to
determine if this is a positive or negative class move.
W/P% L2Y- Horses W/P Percentage for the last 2 years.
W/P% @Trk- Horses W/P percentage at today's track.
W/P% @Dist- Horses W/P percentage at today's distance.
This is the runners record in last three categories above. You can spot runners
who may prefer the track or specific distance of the race in question. Do not
under estimate consistency of a horse at any level. A runner with a good win/place
percentage will give you an honest effort very often.
Spd LR- Speed number assigned to last race. Speed numbers are based upon
Class and pace of each track. For instance, if a horse is running at Belmont in the
105 class level, his speed number will be calculated using the par for the 105 class
level. If this horse happens to run a 110 in a 105 class we assume this horse is
capable of running at the 110 class level. If the horse runs a 100 he is running
below his level.
Spd 2R- Speed number of horse's second race back.
Spd 3R- Speed number of horse's third race back.
Speed rating for the past three races for each runner. Look for figures above the
race class level. Look for an improving speed figure in each of the races to identify
a runner in good form. Conversely, you identify runners with declining form by
noting a declining pattern for the past three races. There are many methods of
using speed figures to handicap the races. Thorostats provides consistently applied
speed ratings you can use with other methods or tools to make the figure plays
you prefer.
Pwr #- Power number is calculated based on all handicapping factors combined.
Adj Odds- Our odds line is currently based on a value opinion of how a profitable
wager should be at post time. We are planning improvements to our odds line in a
future upgrade that will more accurately reflect a runners true chances.
